The Mess Hall

I walked in, and apparently it was dinner time, because the rest of the demigods were there. I sat down at the Poseidon kid table, which was empty, except for Tyson.

"Hiya!" he greeted. I was a bit scared.

Lucy walked in and decided that she didn't like the Hades table, whichwas empty. She decided that no one would really care if she sat at the end of Posiedon, but still. She could use this time to "bond" with her cabin maates.

"Oh joy. That school thing really did brainwash me." She muttered, remembering that. Her school had decided to make everyone sit with their homerooms for the first week, which hadn't done anything useful. It just made everyone know who your friends were in your homeroom.

At any rate, Satsuki was at the Hades table for some reason, and Lucy didn't much like that.

I backed away from the Cyclops. I knew it's name was Tyson from Chiron telling me this would be my only cabin mate. I scooted further away as Tyson started to come towards me. My eyes met Lucy's, at the Hades kid's table. Help me.

"I just wants to talk!" he said, looking a bit upset. I felt sorry for him, with Percy Jackson, one of the Seven, apparently out (I also learned that from Chiron).

"Hey, what's up...buddy?" I replied, trying to put on my best smile.

"Not...not much. Bad Romans are trying to destroy us."

"I heard." Once again, Chiron.

"OH, ELLA, OVER HERE!" Tyson yelled. I jumped a lot, then noticed an ugly rooster-kind of woman thing come over. I didn't learn this from Chiron, but I did remember learning about them somewhere. Maybe a book I read?

The rooster-thing made it's way over and sat across from Tyson. "Hi, Tyson. Ella thinks you look handsome."

I frowned a bit, before Chiron went to the middle of the room, and yelled, "SILENCE!"

Lucy was closer to the Hades table, so she grabbed a seat there. She was creeped out by the cyclopes and bird thing, and sent a sympathetic look Mason's way before giving her attention to Chiron

I smiled at Lucy, before looking at Chiron. He looked at literally everyone, including myself. It was long before he finally spoke.

"I have bad news and good news. Which what should say first?"

"Good news," most of the children said.

Chiron nodded. "We have two new demigods - both Big Three Children. Give a warm welcome to Mason Hewment and Lucy Morrison."

Only a few people clapped, most snickered. Though, a few whispered about them being Big Three Children.

"SILENCE!" the Centaur called again. Everyone obeyed.

When everyone was quiet, he spoke again.

"Bad news time. The Romans are advancing, and I got a message today from Ares, requesting that we start allowing Camp Protectors - about ten or so every night to defend camp. So, since Ares came up with it, I want at least ten Ares kids reporting to my office tonight, at 7, ready for look-out and battle."

I mentally sighed with relief. Some Ares kids looked relieved, some nervous, and some puzzled.

"You may eat. Have a wonderful dinner."

The kids who snickered mostly seemed to be at table Aphrodite, so Lucy decided that she'd summon up a skeleton to terrorize them as revenge. She was seriously thinking of shadow travelling over there when she remembered that her art of shadow travel was not very well practiced. She did it once, and ended up falling down the stairs.

"Yep." She said calmly, glaring at the Aphrodites briefly before turning her attention to her lovely tacos.

I got annoyed fast at the two - Tyson and Ella - being annoying by talking loudly, chewing with their mouth open (mostly Tyson), getting spit all over him (once again, mostly Tyson), and Ella speaking in third person. I tried to eat my chicken, gravy, and biscuits, but was constantly annoyed by them. I sighed - this was not a very welcoming night to camp.

Suddenly, Chiron came over to the Poseidon table. For a second, I hoped that he was going to ask to escort Tyson and Ella out, but that wasn't the case.

"Mr. Hewment, young man, I need you in my office, stat."

I nodded, got up and threw my offerings in, quickly, then followed him. As I passed by the Hades table, I said swiftly and quietly, "Lucy, follow me, but stay hidden," hoping she would hear me. I glanced back at her, then left the Mess Hall.

Lucy recognized Mason's glance; it was one she often used herself back at school. He wanted hidden back up, and she wasn't letting her childhood friend down. She excused herself, using the excuse of heading to tje Ladies room, and crept after Chiron and Mason.

I went out into the darkness of the evening, and after what seemed like forever, went into the Big House. I wiped off the sand from my shoes from walking through the sand of the beach, since we didn't canoe over the lake. I enjoyed the warmth of it. Once we were in his office, the centaur sat, turning into his wheelchair form.

"Now," he said, "Rachel, the Oracle of Delphi, wants you."

I felt nervousness again.

Lucy made her way into the Big House just as Chiron switched into his wheelchair form. She found a window, and watched through there. The shadows hid her from sight as she waited.

A red haired girl with the greenest eyes she had ever seen was there, along with Chiron and Mason. She couldn't quite hear what they were saying, but she got the main drift. The redhead was the Oracle of Delphi.

I saw a red-haired girl walk in. Her green eyes sparkled. She put a warm smile on her face, bending down to my height.

"Hi, newcomer. I'm Rachel Elizabeth Dare, and I'm the Oracle of Delphi. I give prophecies to heroes who go on quests," she said to me.

"Uhm....hi, Ms.....I'm assuming...Dare, I'm Mason Hewment, son of....Poseidon."

"You should not be afraid of being Poseidon's kid. You're more special thank you know. You'll understand someday. And, by the way, you are correct, it is Ms - but you can just call me Rachel."

I smiled. That made me feel a little bit less nervous - the first part, not the Ms. part..... "Thanks. So, Ms. Da - er, Rachel, what do you need?"

Rachel glared at Chiron.

Lucy decided that Rachel Dare was a nice person, and moved on. She had a soft spot in her heart for people who glared at their bosses.

Chiron said, "Mason, Rachel here thinks you're going to get a quest pretty soon, so expect it to come from no-"

Rachel suddenly breathed out green smoke and talked in a way different voice that quite frankly scared the heck out of me, and said,

"Three demigods shall go on a quest,
where an old fellow will be put to rest,
slain first-hand by water's son,
but the total number of demigods left will be none,
whenever Earth overpowers the weak,
and drowns element's own in a creek,
followed by the shaking that will kill,
which will get rid of the others after a deep kneel."

I just stared.

Lucy nearly screamed when Rachel suddenly started spewing green smoke and a prophecy. Her voice appeared to triple, and the prophecy didn't sound to good either. Lucy stared, before realizing that she should get out ofthe way before Mason left to get quest members.

I, after a moment of being frozen, was finally back into it, when Chiron said, "Mason? Go get your quest members - two."

I nodded, running out of the Big House. After halfway back to the Mess Hall, on the Beach, I said, "Lucy?"

Lucy seemed to appear from the shadows. She actually had shadow travelled, so she had been waiting for Mason. Not very long, but she had been.

"Need a quest member?" She asked, knowing that he'd want her to go with him. Who would be the other person??

"Yes. And since you're my best friend, you can personally pick the other member. Let's get back to the 'Hall." I left, going back. I saw Satsuki and waved, but I didn't know exactly why.

Lucy decided to walk back, since she didn't want to end up in China or on a table. She felt annoyed at him waving to Satsuki, but ignored it. She was thinking of who to bring. Maybe Jackson??

I sat down next to Satsuki and Lucy, not caring about the rules at the moment. My attention was drawn to Dane and Jackson, in a silverware eating contest. Many demigods surrounded, watching.

I looked at Satsuki. "I hate to say it, but I don't think we should call you Satsuki. May we call you Mary Ann?" Why was I suddenly warming up to this girl?
